On May 26, 1913 for the 50th Anniversary Reunion of the historic Battle of Gettysburg, 70-year-old Peter Guibert took up his drum and stepped off from the Allegheny City Hall and headed east. He walked 200 miles from Pittsburgh to Gettysburg in 19 days while entertaining school children and adults with his drum along the route. Fifty thousand Union and Confederate veterans from all over the United States received free railroad passes to attend the reunion.
Peter Guibert was the first to arrive.
On May 26, 2013 for the 150th Anniversary Reunion of the historic Battle of Gettysburg, 70-year-old Jim Smith took up Peter Guibert’s drum and stepped off from the West Park of Northside and headed east. He is walking 200 miles from Pittsburgh to Gettysburg in 19 days while entertaining school children and adults with Peter’s drum along the route.
